History
The first version of the Flip Video camera was originally released as the "Pure Digital Point & Shoot" video camcorder on May 1, 2006 as a reusable follow-on to the popular One-Time-Use Camcorder, a Pure Digital product sold through popular pharmacy stores that was designed for direct conversion to DVD media.
This was in turn a line extension of previous digital disposable camera products (sold initially through Ritz Camera and associated brands under the Dakota Digital name).
The camcorder was then renamed as the Flip Video a year later. On September 12, 2007, the Flip Ultra was released.
After it’s release, the Flip Ultra has been the best-selling camcorder on Amazon.com since the day of its debut, capturing about 13% of the camcorder market.
The convenience of this video camera has played a major role in it’s popularity.

This thing is loaded with some pretty good features. One of the features that gets a lot of attention is the flip feature. By pressing down on a button, you flip out a USB connector built into the camera. That means you can easily move video into your computer and to sites like YouTube and Brightcove. There are also no cables to connect or carry around.
In fact, these cameras have software built right into them so as soon as you plug into a USB port on a computer, you can:
• Email videos and video greeting cards
• Edit video clips
• Capture stills
Many of your video subjects don't even realize this is a video camera most of the time. If they are not paying close attention, they’ll most likely think this is a cell phone and that you are trying to snap a still picture. I figured this out after people posed with a big smile, and no movement, thinking I was taking a still shot.
For any shortcomings, you can't beat the portability (in your pocket) and the price. I could see this being a great video camera for travel or for kids to try their hand at making mini movies.
Calling it the "world's smallest HD camcorder," the Flip Mino HD looks identical to the standard-definition Flip Mino. It weighs just over 3 ounces, boasts 720p resolution, and has 4GB of memory that allows for 60 minutes of recording time.
This new release also says that the Flip Mino HD features "all-new built-in FlipShare software for easy saving, organizing and sharing of video from your computer."
These small cameras can also be combined with a nice assortment of accessories to make carrying them and using them much easier.

My family loves this camcorder! It's great to record the kids at their games, use for HW assignments, or just for fun! I highly recommend it! It's so compact and so easy to use. The videos upload to your computer so easily. It's dummy proof!

Actually, it has more definition than expected. Definately worth the money spent.
